Here are some things to help you get the most out of piano lessons…

For the Student:
Practice, practice, practice! I like to think of the skill of playing the piano as a tall jar full of marbles. Every time you sit down to practice, it’s like you are putting a marble in the jar. Practicing is the only way to become a wonderful pianist- the only way to fill that jar! Once the jar is full, after all the hours of practicing, the skill has been mastered! It may take you three years to fill your jar; it may take you twenty years…it’s up to you. There is no way around the hours of practice it will take to fill the jar! That’s how important practicing is! I will always have a fun sticker chart, or other activity to make it more fun to play each week, so keep those fingers movin’ on the piano- YOU CAN DO IT!
For the Parents:
Playing the piano can be so much fun for children and it is such a wonderful skill to have later in life as well. However, most parents don’t realize the dedication it takes to be successful- It takes a lot of practice to learn to play! Please help your child remember to practice each week. There will be times when your child will enjoy practicing as well as times when they may struggle. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns you may have.
Here are a couple of practicing suggestions I’ve found that may help:
1. Always encourage your child to practice! They need your support! Often it is just REMEMBERING to have them practice each day! (I have three learning and that is our biggest struggle) I have found a set time of day, with a reminder alarm, has worked best for us. Here are some practice charts for incentive at home if you would like to use them.
2. You may want to stand next to them as they play for a few minutes each day to listen to their progress and praise their accomplishments!
Please read through my policy below and let me know if you have any questions. There is a printable file below.
Piano Lesson policy:
1. Students are required to practice for 20-30 minutes a day. This is so crucial if each student is to reach his/her full potential.
2. Students need to come each week prepared with their lesson books and spiral notebook, as well as any other songs they want to work on.
3. Unfortunately, I cannot give refunds for missed lessons. I can, however, try to work out a make-up lesson. Please ask me if you need to reschedule for whatever reason. If a student is going to miss a lesson, please call ahead. This saves me from waiting around for a no show, and allows me to help another student with a make-up lesson during the cancellation.
4. If at the beginning of the month you know you will be out of town for a lesson, and we can’t reschedule, I can work out reducing tuition for that month.
5. Tuition is due by the first lesson of the month in the amount of $60, and $75 for months with five weeks. There will be a $5 late charge for tuition paid after 8th.
6. Families with multiple students receive a reduced rate of $52 per month/per child, or $65ea for months with five weeks. (Group lesson family rate of $30 each.)
I’m so excited to begin teaching piano to your child! I hope it will be a fun, positive experience!
Thanks, April
